Biocidal Roof Wash
Manual roof moss removal followed by a biocidal roof wash is the most gentle and long lasting solution to cleaning your roof.
We use long handled equipment which we roof moss is scraped manually from your roof tiles before a biocidal roof wash is applied. Once applied the roof wash kills any remaining living organisms on your roof, including moss spores and lichen.
Is it worth having moss removed from roof?
Yes, definitely, the advantages outweigh the negatives. Even if moss doesn't appear on some parts of a roof, it's worth cleaning a roof properly to remove areas where moss has started to grow, but it isn't yet visible. Moss retains water and if left on a roof for long periods, it can cause damage including cracks to tiles.
Removing moss from the roof is absolutely necessary to guarantee the proper functioning of the water drainage and to prevent the roofing from freezing to pieces.
Why not use pressure or jet washing equipment on a roof?
There are many roof pressure/jet washing companies out there that will clean your roof. This is usually the cheapest method of cleaning your roof, but it is also the most likely to cause damage.
Risks of pressure washing a roof include:
The pressure is too great for the roof tiles and therefore, can cause damage.
The roof tiles are usually walked on while undertaking the job, so the tiles can crack and break.
It can allow for water ingress into your roof/home.
The harshness of the pressure wash can cause a reduction in the lifespan of your roof.
Broken tiles may fall as the moss hiding them is pressure/jet washed away.
It may also cause stripping the colouring from certain types of tiles.
